2009: The year of light
2009 will be remembered by its long periods of sun, which accompanied grapevine throughout its cycle.
That summer sunshine seems to be bottled along with the wine, reflecting somehow the outstanding character of the 2009 vintage, which offered us an exceptional harvest regarding quality, balance and potential.
WINE TASTING
Intense, very strong dark cherry colour. Has a complex bouquet, in which outstand touches of ripe red fruit (blackberry, prunes…) with slight balsamic hints and straight after reminding of cocoa, high roast with mineral background. In the mouth it has both body and acidity, which give the wine a fresh and appetising touch, with sweet and velvety tannins. We feel the fruit and the well integrated ageing touches coming back to the nose, with a long and tasty end.
Qualification of vintage:
EXCELLENT.
Variety:
100% Tempranillo.
Vineyards:
In Baños de Valdearados and Pesquera de Duero; 70 year old gobelets and 15 year old (vertical) trellis, at over 900 meters of altitude.
Vintage:
Manually gathered, in 15 Kg boxes, the 3, 4, 5 and 7 of October 2009.
Softening:
Kept cold for 5 days before fermentation and 25 days after it.
Fermentation:
Between 27º and 30º Celsius.
Ageing:
In subterranean cellar for 19 months, in new barrels of American (25 %) and French oak (75 %).
Settling:
In the barrel, with natural egg white.
Filtration:
Previous to bottling, which was carried out in January 2012.
